Using Your Out of Network Insurance Benefits

At Streams of Serenity Counseling, if we are out of network for you, it means we don’t have a negotiated rate currently with your insurance company directly, and therefore, we won’t bill them on your behalf. However, many clients are able to receive reimbursement from their insurance company by submitting a superbill (an itemized receipt for therapy services).

Here’s how you can check your benefits and submit a superbill:

Step 1: Call Your Insurance Provide

Billing and Insurance Info:

Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:

Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my deductible for out-of-network services, and how much of it have I met?
What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed once my deductible is met?
Are there any limitations on the number of sessions per year?
What information do you need to process a claim?
How do I submit a superbill — online, by app, or by mail?

Tip: Write down the name of the representative you speak with and any reference number for the call.
